We’re approaching that time of year when kids throughout the country are getting ready to go back to school by picking out a new backpack or lunch box and shopping for other essential supplies. However, this pastime is out of reach for many families who are working hard each day just to make ends meet. And, with schools continuing to face severe budget cuts, they too lack the funding to purchase some necessary supplies for even their neediest students.
We are turning to you, our community of friends and service partners, to ask for your help in getting local children the school supplies they need to succeed in the new school year.
We are hosting our annual Back 2 School Health & Resource Event on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 11am-3pm. Our goal is to give every child – across each of our program areas – who resides in the Watts Willowbrook, Compton and South Los Angeles communities – a backpack with age-appropriate supplies, as well as offer haircuts, healthy eating seminars, and more! Additionally, Drew CDC is hosting a screening of the film, Walking While Black L.O.V.E is the Answer, a documentary that continues the conversation of the need for positive relationships between local law enforcement and their respective communities. We hope you will join us in serving our communities through this event!
Please consider becoming a Corporate Sponsor or making an individual donation. At any level, you will be making a difference in the lives of our children and their families!
Corporate Sponsors provide twenty children with the items necessary to begin the school year empowered, focused and ready to learn and will receive logo placement on all digital and print event advertising, a hand-written thank you note from the children attending the event, and recognition and inclusion on Drew CDC’s website.
We greatly appreciate your consideration. Together we can make a difference!
Please drop off donations and supplies to 1770 E. 118th Street, Los Angeles CA 90059 no later than August 4, 2017. Tax-deductible donations can be made online at http://drewcdc.org/giving/. If you have any questions regarding the Back to School Event, please direct any questions to Jewel Moore at (323) 249-2950 ext. 157.
