Mental Health Division

A Little Girl Gets a Hug at DrewDrew Child Development Corporation's Mental Health Program provides a range of comprehensive services for emotionally disturbed children and youth between the ages of 0 and 18 which assists the child /adolescent in gaining the social and functional skills necessary for appropriate development and social integration. It is our goal to reduce/divert psychiatric hospitalization or out of home placements; however when deemed necessary, assist the child /adolescent in the return from out of home care or psychiatric hospitalization. In addition, our goal is to increase school success; reduce involvement with the juvenile system and facilitate one's transition to adult-hood. Our program provides assessment, crisis intervention, mental health therapy, case management, medication support and referral services

To be eligible for admission, a client must be a Los Angeles County resident, between 0 and 18 years, meet medical necessity requirements and have a DSM axis one diagnosis.

All children and youth referred will be initially assessed for provision of direct outpatient mental health or school-based services. This screening and assessment process, and the development of a treatment plan will ensure that the full range of services are being provided to the family. These services will be provided at the Drew Child Development Corporation main facility, in one of the five childcare centers, in the home of the child, or within another agreed upon community location. Schools that will be initially targeted for school-based services are within the Watts/ Willowbrook area. The selection of other schools will be coordinated with the existing planning efforts of the Department of Mental Health and local schools.
