Established in response to the needs demonstrated by the Watts Uprising, Drew CDC has long served as a cornerstone of support for our community’s children and families, who have carried the burden of years of social, racial, and economic disparity and injustice. Services were initially developed and administered by the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science until Drew CDC was established as its own private nonprofit in 1987.
Through government contracts, foundation grants, and private donations, each year the agency administers a wide array of essential developmental services to more than 16,000 underserved children from culturally diverse families.
- Early Childhood STEAM Education programs at our six ECE centers
- Early intervention programs for infants and toddlers who are born with developmental disabilities or are considered at-risk for developmental delays
- Child care services to make sure that income is not a barrier to high quality child care for all families
- Mental health services for children and families
- Trauma-Informed Care training for child care professionals and families
We know that every child’s success strengthens our community, which is why we provide children and families with a safe, nurturing environment in which to develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive.
Dear Friends,
As every parent knows, having a child is like having your heart outside of your body, running free in the world – a condition that is both incredibly joyous and a little scary. At Drew CDC, that is why we find it to be a delight and a privilege to provide holistic care for our children in the South Los Angeles community. We are committed to fostering all aspects of children’s healthy development, supporting and strengthening families, healing trauma, and building community. Drew CDC partners with parents to educate children not only about academics, but about our shared values, and the tremendous value that exists in each of them. It is an honor to work alongside so many incredible staff, volunteers, and families in Drew CDC’s mission to give our children the opportunity for success!
Sincerely,
Jackie Clarke
